Rhythm: Grouping Exercises
All grouping exercises superimpose 3, 5- and 7-note groups on single bars. The five-note groups are divided into 2+5, the seven-note groups are divided into 2+2+3. The upper voice includes the subdivisions, the lower voice consists only of the resulting accents. Learn both separately.
- Practice the rhythms with Konnakol.
- Clap the rhythm while counting the beats out loud.
- Improvise on the rhythms on your instrument. Don’t just play an ostinato, but play freely on a chord progression.
